Telangana Success Story
NAQUIM studies established the need to construct 4370 Artificial Recharge structures in Nalgonda, 9354 ARS in Nizamabad, 3001 ARS in Warangal and 3617 ARS in Karimnagar districts in convergence with MNREGS and PMKSY.
- The Aquifer management plans prepared in integration with the Government of Telangana flagship programs Mission Kakatiya and Mission Bhagiratha. The impact of de-siltation of tanks under Mission kakatiya is estimated in NAQUIM studies. In Nalgonda district, an estimated 4.24 MCM of ground water will be recharged which can bring additional 693 ha land under irrigation. In Nizamabad district, the resultant de-silting augment 6.4 MCM groundwater which can bring an additional 1066 ha land, In Warangal district, ground water recharge of 8.0 MCM can bring additional/existing 1333 ha of land and in Karimnagar district, ground water recharge of 1.07 MCM can bring additional/existing 178 ha of land under irrigation/tank ayacut.
- The NAQUIM studies established the suitability of the area for construction of farm ponds as best water conservation structures in these districts . It is recommended to construct 18440 farm ponds in Nalgonda district, 27234 in Nizamabad district and 13960 in Warangal district and 17320 in Karimnagar district.
- In the NAQUIM studies, quantification of Surface water, run off and surplus run off and ground water and volume of Aquifer storage had created a platform for the integration of both Surface and ground water for comprehensive conjunctive use in the State.
